It's no secret that we LOVE to travel. We would much rather have our passports filled up than our bank accounts but we got the best of both worlds when we filmed the unforgettable wedding in Italy last September. Jovan hadn't visited his family in 3 years so we took that opportunity to spend some time in Macedonia, where he was born. Visiting his grandfather and all the cousins, aunts, uncles, second cousins, etc is always so much fun and comes with the best food in the world. They say home is where the heart is and Jovan's home is definitely in the Balkans!
Apologies for the smattering of iPhone photos mixed in. As photographers, we sometimes feel like holding a camera is "work" and leave it behind when traveling :)
Amazing view from our AirBnB!
The day after the wedding, we took an unforgettable sailing trip along the Amalfi coast. There were breathtaking views of the little towns that speckle the landscape along the brilliant blue sea.
On our day off, we traveled the short distance to Pompeii. It was fascinating walking the streets of the ancient city and feeling what it was like to live like a Roman.
Our last stop was Jovan's home city of Skopje in Macedonia. There we went from house to house, visiting all sides of his big and wonderful family.
The second day, we traveled to Sveti Nikola. A small town where Jovan's grandmother grew up. We visited her old home that hadn't been lived in for decades. The neighbors were using the space to store peppers and other foodstuffs, as they created preserves to store for the winter.
Our next stop was the nearby archaeological dig of Bylazora, an Paeonian city from classical antiquity. There were people hard at work uncovering the artifacts and architecture in the area, which was fascinating to observe.
Back to Skopje to rest and refuel on some incredible food and good company. Jovan's family on both sides sure know how to feed their guests until you explode!
Our final stop on the journey was to the beautiful are of Matka, very near the city limits of Skopje. This picturesque river and dam is surrounded by jagged green mountaintops. Perfect for some epic drone shots!
